My Oh Maya! – Surviving 2012

Hi all, I think I’m gonna forego trying to decipher if either a catastrophic, or religious event is in our future for 2012, or just some minor planetary inconveniences. Doesn’t really matter whether it’s alien, or divine in nature anyway. Since there’s very little any of us can do to prevent, or predict the outcome, I’ve decided to just concentrate on making sure we’re prepared for whatever is in store for us.

As with any potential disaster, there are things you can do to better prepare yourself, and ensure the survival of you, your family, and your friends, and I’ve put together a little checklist of survival tips, to help you do just that.

Click my “Surviving Disaster” link here: http://rogomedia.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/surviving-disaster1.docx or at the bottom of this post, to view the checklist, or download and keep it, if you like.

Is there really a Potential for Disaster? Well, I believe the possibility is there yes, but the probability is really what’s in question, isn’t it.

The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic path of the Sun.

The Maya calendar, also known as the 13 moon calendar, is an interesting piece of work, both because of its complexity, and because of its great accuracy. The Maya people have predicted many events in the past and the most discussed event, is their prediction for 2012.

So what exactly did they predict? Well, besides 2012, they’ve had many remarkable predictions actually. For instance, they predicted 9/11, and solar eclipses thousands of years into the future, and what’s interesting is that many other cultures have predicted some of the same events, as well as something similarly catastrophic to happen in 2012. China’s oldest texts, the I-Ching prophecies, have proven themselves time and time again, predicting World War 1, World War 2, 9/11 and more. The I-Ching also predicts the end of time on December 21. 2012.

So why is it known as the 13 moon calendar? Well the reason for this is because the Mayans used a 13 month instead of a 12 month system, with each month having 28 days. Some will argue that this is a more natural way of counting time as todays 12 month calendars have a varying number of days for each month. There’s also 13 full moons in a year.

Nobody knows when the Maya calendar was made but experts say that it was already in use around 600 B.C. The calendar itself starts on August 11 in the year 3114 B.C. It utilizes a long count in order to accurately measure long periods of time. This long count starts on August 11 in the year 3114 B.C, and ends on december 21. 2012. This end date is very close, and has been the reason for many 2012 doomsday theories.

For those of you who read the Bible, you may be familiar with the end of days story. The Bible points to a war of good and evil preceding the end of days. Christ’s followers will do battle with the legions of Satan, winner take all. According to this story, the saved will have already been taken from the earth as we know it, but I’m sure they will have a front row seat to the mayhem that follows.

Whether it be the Rapture, or the Maya calendar ending in 2012, a large group of people left behind, may have to deal with natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, typhoons, flooding, solar flares, disease, famine, glaciers, power failure, and an assortment of chaotic events.

Personally, I’m still at odds with the accuracy of these predictions, however, there has been a great deal of very credible scientific evidence, pointing to the fact that the Galactic alignment WILL take place on this date, or close to it, and that there WILL most certainly be some sort effect on our planet. Since the last time this happened was 26,000 years ago, Scientists can only predict the effects based on what they know about the last event. What they do know about that event, is limited, and highly speculative, so I guess my point is, that we really have no idea of what that effect may be this time around. Could be as minor as a short power outage, and some flooding, or as major as some are predicting. There are many varying opinions on the effects, but most everyone in the Scientific community are in agreement that this event will take place. Very spooky stuff, to say the least.

Either way, you’ll want to be prepared: I recommend praying first, but I’ve also put together a pretty decent list of survival tips for you keep on hand, so you will be ready, just in case that doesn’t work.

That’s all for now, so have a great weekend, and well… pleasant dreams.

Peter Ward on Earth's appetite for destruction

Peter Ward discussed his views, on the extinction of the dinosaurs, who the real culprit may be, and his own "Medea Hypothesis", that may be in direct conflict with how other scientists view our planet's history & future. http://blog.ted.com/2009/01/peter_ward_on_e.php

DARK GREEN: A scientist argues that the natural world isn't benevolent and sustaining: it's bent on self destruction. http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2009/01/11/dark_green/.

The first link is from the TED blog site, describing in short, the theory that one scientist, Peter Ward, has about the way in which the earth seems to be able to poison itself, without our help, and that it's only real survival depends on our ability to heal it.

The second link is from the Boston Globe, in which he discusses his theory of Medea Hypothesis, named after the mythological Greek sorceress who killed her own children. Although his proposed theory isn't proven, and may never be, he certainly poses some interesting facts about our earth's history of destruction, and leaves one to wonder what could happen if we actually were able to take ourselves out of the equation, and leave the earth to clean up after itself. This is a lengthy article, but I urge you to read it, and challenge your own ideas on how we as a human race should conserve & preserve.

Sorry, I was unable to find a presentation on this talk, as it is a relatively new idea brought forth, and hasn't really even been presented to the rest of the scientific community yet, but keep a close eye on this subject on Ted Talk, because they promise there will be more towards the end of this month, when Peter Ward presents his theory to the rest of the world.

Silly Blog

Well, this is my first blog ever. Still not sure what a blog is... well I know what it is obviously because I'm posting one, but I fail to see how posting a comment online received such a silly label as a "blog". What does blog mean, and who on earth came up with the term. If anybody has any insight into the history of the blog, I would certainly love to hear it. Bye for now. Regards, Phil.
